In declaring that it is time for Middle East peace "without preconditions," President Obama used his speech to the U.N. General Assembly Wednesday to fire a warning at Israel that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."... When in the history of this country has there been such a wholesale abandonment of our allies? Upon Obama's inauguration, we promptly offended the UK in multiple cases. We reached out to Iran and ignored their slaughter of election protesters. We abandoned Poland and Eastern Europe on missile defense on the 70th anniversary of Russia's invasion of Poland. And now we've announced to the world that we are abandoning Israel. That's effectively what Obama has done. He could have privately told the Israeli the prime minister the same thing--he could have made it clear that that was his position and the prime minister would have responded accordingly. Instead, the president of the United States just announced to the world that it is abandoning Israel. Years of terrorism on the part of the enemies of Israel has apparently succeeded at drawing things out to the point that the United States has capitulated and withdrawn support of its ally. This sends the wrong message to terrorists who now know that if they keep up their tactics long enough, eventually there will be a world leader weak enough to give in. It sends the wrong message to the enemies of Israel. Along with the non-response to Iran's slaughter in June, it sends the wrong message to Iran. Obama's actions during his presidency have offended allies, abandoned allies, emboldened Russia, emboldened Iran, and most likely emboldened North Korea as they see the leader of the free world being completely unwilling to stand by our allies. Israel is at greater risk today, and so are we. Go to the article list |
