Republican Dede Scozzafava endorsed her former Democratic opponent Sunday in the race for an upstate New York congressional seat, shaking up the contest for the second day in a row after exiting the race Saturday. This is exactly why Republicans have been losing elections. In too many cases we've been running candidates that aren't conservative, they're liberals! In this case conservatives around the country took a stand and said "no more" to liberal Republican candidates. Republicans wanted a real choice: A liberal or a conservative, not a liberal or a liberal. The same thing, largely, happened last year in the presidential election. But this time conservatives had had enough. So Scozzafava drops out and doesn't endorse anyone though, as a Republican, one would assume she'd endorse the conservative candidate. But, no, today she endorsed the Democrat. The Republican nominee for NY23 dropped out of the race and endorsed the Democrat. These are the types of "Republicans" that need to be purged from the party. This is why Republicans got booted out of power in 2006 and 2008. This is why many people claim there aren't any differences between the two major parties. With candidates such as Scozzafava, there isn't! There is a difference between the platforms of the two parties. It's night and day. There is also a difference between the ideologies. But, as we see in Dede Scozzafava, there often isn't a difference between the candidates. And that's the fault of Republican leadership... or lack thereof. And, in NY23, both the nation and the Republican leadership is waking up to the fact that the conservative base of the Republican party is no longer just the base. It is the leadership. The conservative base is the de facto leadership if not the official leadership. Dede Scozzafava, with her endorsement of a Democrat today, confirmed all the concerns and fears that conservatives in the Republican party have regarding our party's candidates. We aren't making it up when we express our concern about liberal Republicans. They're very real, and they're what has done so much damage to our party. They sap the strength of the conservative base that is not motivated to participate when it's a choice between two liberals. And they do a disservice to America when America doesn't truly have the option of choosing between two distinct ideologies, two distinct views of America. The race in NY23 is a "teachable moment." The Republican leadership better wake up to the fact that the members of the Republican party have had enough. And the Republican leadership better wake up to the fact that, as Dede Scozzafava today demonstrated, the members of the Republican party were right. The leadership better start listening to the grass roots members of the party or they won't be the "leadership" much longer. We're sick and tired of Democrats running as Republicans.
